Louis Daguerre

Photography was still a new art form, and there was no one else doing what Stieglitz wanted to do. Stieglitz spent years making his own camera. He found a way to attach a camera to a tripod. He made this camera portable by attaching it to his belt. Eventually, Stieglitz created his own photographic process. Stieglitz would place his camera onto his tripod and open the lens cover. A light would hit the back of the camera and the chemical reaction would begin.

Dorothea Lange

was born in New York City, on May 25, 1886. She attended Barnard College. At age 19, she worked as a secretary. She later joined the Chicago Art Institute. She earned her B.A. at the school in 1915. She became interested in photographing people during the Great Depression. She became known as "America's most famous photographer." In 1920, she began to work for the Farm Security Administration (FSA). She traveled around America and photographed people who needed assistance from the government. She took photographs of sharecroppers, farm workers, and migrant workers. She also photographed people who were in trouble with the law. She was the only woman allowed to work in this field.

Ansel Adams

is a famous photographer. His photos are known to be beautiful and detailed. He started to take photographs as a hobby, but he eventually turned this hobby into a profession. Adams took his first photograph in 1918, when he was a student at Stanford University. While studying at Stanford, he took many photographs of trees and landscapes. He enjoyed taking these kinds of pictures. He graduated from Stanford in 1922. In 1923, he joined the Works Progress Administration. This organization provided jobs for unemployed people. In 1927, he became the head of the Fine Arts Department at the New York School of Fine Arts. He taught there until 1933. After that, he continued to work for the FSA. Adams was not interested in making money.
